Wannabe Writer’s Note: This is the re-posting of the Kid Icarus Uprising review I wrote on my old website. This article was originally posted on September 19, 2015. Enjoy past me’s mostly unedited ramblings! My Amiibo addiction has apparently been a problem for many years now…
Prior to this game I had no experience with the Kid Icarus series. Mostly due to my crippling Amiibo addiction, I wanted to see what game the Pit, Palutena, and Dark Pit Amiibo came from. This led me to check stock at my local EB Games. The search revealed that they had a mint condition used copy that I snapped up in March. I really enjoyed the banter between the characters and humor in the game. This unique charm helped me get passed some glaring faults I found.

Wannabe Writer’s Note: This is the re-posting of The Legend of Zelda review I wrote on my old website. This article was originally posted on November 6, 2016. Enjoy past me’s unedited ramblings! Figured I’d do a timely re-posting of this for the game’s 33rd release-o-versary, eh.
Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda series easily tops my list of favourite video game franchises, yet it took me this long to sit down and play the game that started it all. The modernized gamer I have become was thrown off by the lack of direction at the start of the game. I wandered into a cave, picked up a sword that was carelessly on the ground, and was warned about how it’s dangerous to go alone by a kindly old gentlemen. Then I was turned loose on the original land of Hyrule, and left to fight my way to whatever map square I pleased. Overall, I enjoyed my time with the granddaddy of open world games. I can see that this title gave a strong foundation for what has today become the imposing tower of Legend of Zelda games.

Let me get this out of the way first: Diddy Kong Racing for the Nintendo 64 will always be 100 times better than any Mario Kart game ever, in my eyes. That’s my opinion and I’m stating it. It’s totally cool if you disagree. The Mario Kart series has more of an emphasis on needing multiplayer to be truly fun, which is a huge reason why I like Diddy Kong Racing’s single player story mode style a lot better (even if the story is hilariously nonsensical… giant space pig… LOLz). Plus David Wise music… sorry, Mario. That being said, I’ve still enjoyed the few Mario Kart games I’ve raced around in, including this one!

Wannabe Writer’s Note: This first impressions article was originally posted on my old website on June 10th, 2017. I recently finished everything I wanted to do in the game and plan to write a review here very soon, eh. Enjoy my past self’s unedited ramblings!
All the cool kids who are lucky enough to own a Switch seem to playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe lately. I didn’t want to feel left behind, as usual, so I decided to pick up a copy a few weeks ago. I completely missed out on the Wii U version, making this title a brand spanking new experience for me. I must say that it has been ages since I played a racing game. I’ve spent hundreds of blissful childhood hours dominating the beautiful tracks of Diddy Kong Racing, but I’m a cranky old woman with slow reflexes now. What I’m getting at here is that I suck, but it’s so much fun! This is the perfect game to play alongside Horizon Zero Dawn. When I need a break from robot animal controlled Earth, I can relax by getting Blue-shelled into last place by another game’s evil AI.

Wannabe Writer’s Note: This is the re-posting of the Super Mario Odyssey Review I wrote on my old website. This article was originally posted on April 11, 2018. Enjoy past me’s unedited ramblings!
I really hate to admit this, but I’ve finally accepted it’s true; the Mario series has lost the special spark of magic I once felt for it. Back when I was little, I was head over heels in love with Super Mario World, Yoshi’s Island, and Super Mario 64. Later in life, I also had a blast with Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. So like almost every other Nintendo fan lucky enough to own a Switch, I preordered my copy of this game and played it on launch day. Instead of being swept away into a magical gaming land (like everyone else on the internet), I found myself eye-rolling at everything… worse than a cranky pink haired Final Fantasy protagonist.
Don’t get me wrong! I didn’t hate the game on launch day. It was kinda fun at the time, but it completely failed to live up to the hype I had for it. Plus I was in a bad mood… it was too cheery… and helpless princesses… blah blah blah. Excuses! I’m ashamed to call myself a Nintendo fan. Sigh.

⚡ Caution ⚡ – This post contains spoilers for the beginnings of Super Mario Odyssey. Some people like going into games knowing as little as possible (like me) so just thought I’d give you fair warning!
Wannabe Writer’s Note: This first impressions article was originally posted on my old website on October 31, 2017, shortly after the game’s launch. Enjoy my cranky-ass past self’s unedited ramblings!
All aboard the freaking hype train, I mean… Bowser Controlled Airship Thingy! Like almost everyone else lucky enough to own a Switch, I picked up a shiny new copy of Super Mario Odyssey on Friday. Unlike everyone else, I played it for about an hour and had to stop because I was… I was… well, I was bored out of my damn mind. There, I said it! What the hell is wrong with me? I have no idea… but I’ve been in a persistent bad mood lately, and Mario failed to pull me into his latest Bowser-bashing adventure. Do I hate it? No, not at all. It just didn’t click with me right away, and it sucks being the outcast, let me tell you. Anyway, I like it. I guess I just don’t like-like it. Maybe this first impression post will help me figure out why!

Oh those glorious Nintendo 64 days are the highlight of my entire childhood! So much greatness and two freaking amazing Zelda games in one generation… what more could I ask for? I will come out and say Ocarina of Time is my favourite Zelda title (and all-time favourite video game ever) but Majora’s Mask has a very special place in my gamer heart too! And yeah, I know. I see the endless debates on the interwebz about which Zelda is the “best”. Your opinion totally matters, and by all means share it, but stop wasting time enforcing it on others. And that’s all I have to say about that, eh.
Anyway, I was super excited when the 3D remaster of Majora’s Mask was released on the 3DS a few years back! I was even more excited when I won the online checkout race and managed to snag the limited edition bundle that came with the Skull Kid figure. Take that, greedy resellers! My review of Majora’s Mask 3D was the second review I posted on my old website, back in late 2015. This is mostly the re-posting of that so please note that my review writing style has evolved a lot since then (I ramble on A LOT more these days). Now I’ll throw the words back to past me for a bit.
