UNC: Platinum Mass Effect 1 – Complete!

I did it!! After 4.01 playthroughs in about 4 weeks (or to be less technical: 4 full playthroughs and a tiny bit of 5th one to get to level 60) I acquired the Mass Effect 1 Platinum Trophy on Friday June 21st after that annoying IRL work thing. Woot! Look at me achieving unimportant gaming goals I have set for myself.

And It couldn’t have popped at a weirder time… At least Ashley was nearby for a congratulatory hug, eh!

And yes, I’ve already claimed most of the trophies in Mass Effect 2 (I’ll just say social isolation is great for achieving gaming goals). Keeping with the theme of this Platinum quest post series, here’s some of the highlights from the last two weeks of my Mass Effect 1 Platinum quest.

Things on the XIIIth: June & July 2019

Welcome to my monthly progress post that happens on the 13th (unless I miss a month… oops), which marks the start of a new fiscal month here on Livid Lightning. Get it? XIII is my favourite number… because I like Final Fantasy XIII a lot? Jeez… tough crowd.

I haven’t been feeling very social media friendly lately, so I haven’t been online for a few weeks. I hope everyone’s rocking whatever they’re working on these days! I’ve been busy battling my brain’s negative thought patterns, trying to platinum the Mass Effect trilogy, and attempting more of the social offline thing.

June and July 2019
Relatable memes make life worth living.

Oh and I went on an amazing trip to the USA and got to meet two of my blogging buddies (Athena and The Shameful Narcissist) in reality. That was the best IRL experience ever!! First time leaving Canada, too, eh. I’ll probably be blogging about my trip in another post, but TL;DR I went to the great State of New Jersey and also got to spend a day wandering around New York City (just… WOW).

Anyway, I suspect my social media presence will never be the same as it once was. That’s life! We move forward, we grow, and we change.

UNC: Platinum Mass Effect 1 (Week 2)

Alrighty! I’m still plugging away at my latest crazy video game goal: Get the PlayStation Platinum trophies for the entire Mass Effect trilogy (Please note: I love Andromeda too and already have a Platinum trophy for that one. Not bragging, just sayin’).

I’m hella proud to say I beat Hardcore difficulty with my Space Jerk Shepard today. And while I was hungover, I might add. My impressive ability to cast Singularity and run away paid off. This playthrough also accomplished all of the goals I had set:

  • Dick was a huge asshole to everyone and landed the Renegade trophy.
  • I made him woo Ashley Williams for the romance trophy. That arc was actually quite amusing (I think Ash is a badass and she’s one of my favourite Mass Effect people). The sexy time scene wasn’t too graphic, thankfully!
  • I got all of the Biotic power related trophies.
  • I completed most of the game with Tali and Wrex, earning their companion trophies.
  • I’ll say it again: I beat the game on Hardcore. Woot! Starting out was a pain, but once Dick’s Biotic powers were leveled enough, it turned into easy mode (shout-out to Tali for her shield cracking abilities).

Here are the screenshot highlights! Oh and apparently my screen capture card crapped out around the last of this playthrough. It sucks because I had some awesome shots… technology.

Pete’s Corner Episode 10 feat. LightningEllen (Me!!)

ZOMG! Super huge shout-out to Omar over at Drakulus.com for inviting me to be a guest on his latest podcast episode. It was so much fun chatting with him… and also so, so far outside of my comfort zone to verbally talk over the internet instead of type words. I had a blast talking to him!

Check it out below.

⚡Thanks for reading!⚡

If for some odd reason you want to read more of my posts, you can find a somewhat organized (and usually up to date) archive of my ramblings… I mean, articles here!

UNC: Platinum Mass Effect 1 (Week 1)

Me and my random game goals… alas! Poor backlog and never-ending stream of new game releases I’m totally ignoring. Anyway, I’ve decided to throw everything aside and go for the fancy PlayStation Platinum trophies for the Mass Effect trilogy of games. Why exactly? Hm. Let me figure out the root cause of this crazy mission…

Well, it all started with a blogging thing I’ve been wanting to do for a while. Athena over at AmbiGaming did a really cool Mass Effect Month back in November 2017 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of BioWare’s epic-space-drama-action RPG video game series. Basically, she answered 30 questions in 30 articles about Mass Effect that month. I wanted to turn that into one of those monthly blog challenge thingys and post my answers here each day in June (because it conveniently has 30 days).

Yeah. So after writing about 6 of those posts, I had an uncontrollable desire to play Mass Effect again. Nope. Those posts are no longer happening in June (maybe November). All I care about now is playing Mass Effect with every ounce of free time I have. Woo!!

Last year, I beat the Mass Effect trilogy for the very first time on the PC, but I had unplayed PS3 copies of the trilogy kicking around in my collection for a while. So why the hell not? I love Platinum Trophies and I love Mass Effect so let’s do this! Wouldn’t be the first trilogy of games I’ve Platinumed if I can pull it off *cough* Final Fantasy XIII *cough*

And no, I don’t want to totally abandon blogging while I chase after this goal (especially since WordPress renewed all my website fees). I’m going to try to post some weekly-ish updates as I go (highly depends on moodiness level fluctuations and whatnot).

Here’s how my first week-ish went!

12 Days of Blogmas: 8 Cool Characters

Hey! Listen. You know that popular Christmas song called the 12 Days of Christmas? Athena over at AmbiGaming came up with a cool holiday themed community collaboration idea to gamify that kinda-as-annoying-as-Navi song (that we all love or hate). Basically, it’s a countdown list each day that ends up with 364 items, times however many bloggers do this, at the end of the event (something like that… my maths is bad). Be warned that my singing voice is terrible, but here we go, eh!

🎶 On the 5th day of Blogmas, the gamers said to me: Eight characters you love! 🎶

2018 Community GOTY Challenge Accepted

The always amazing Luna over at GamersUnitedGG extended a seasonally appropriate challenge to the blogging community (found here). Basically, you write a post about your personal Game of the Year (that thankfully does NOT need to be released this year, just one you played this year). Then there will be a poll with voting and stuff, which sounds really cool! I’ve decided to partake in this event and this post is my entry.

I’ve already declared my GOTY that came out this year in my last post. That would be Mega Man 11 since it’s the only game from 2018 I actually beat in 2018… BUT since this challenge is open to ANY game I played this year (regardless of launch date), well, that’s hella hard because it’s been quite a gaming year for me, let me tell you.

I honestly have no idea what I’m going to pick out of the 15 great games (and shameful DLC purchases) I finished this year. So… I’m going to stop babbling about it and do a ranked list of games I beat this year. That should help me narrow down my winner. Let’s do this!
