Dragon Age Inquisition Review 1

Platform Played On: PC
Developer: BioWare
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Genre: Action RPG
Release Date: November 18, 2014

Wannabe Writer’s Note: This is the re-posting of the Dragon Age Inquisition Review I wrote on my old website. This article was originally posted on April 4, 2018. Enjoy past me’s unedited ramblings!

When I stop and think about it, I’ve been focused on playing the Dragon Age series since June 2017. Wow… Now I can proudly say I’ve beaten all 3 of these glorious games! Each one offers a totally different gameplay experience. Inquisition is big the ol’ open world one with about a million side activities that distracted me from the main plot. When I started this game, I had come right off of beating Dragon Age II (the “too linear” one) for the fourth time so the transition was pretty jarring, to say the least. To be honest, I felt overwhelmed, but once I settled into the controls (and finally left the Hinterlands), I fell in love with this version of Thedas.

Path of the Grey Warden 9: Originated

Wannabe Writer’s Note: This is the re-posting of the Dragon Age Origins babblethrough series I did on my old website. This article was originally posted on December 25, 2017. Enjoy past me’s unedited ramblings!

This is it! My 9th and final progress babbling post for the Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition. I can’t believe I actually stuck with something I said I was going to do… wow. Anyway, Grey Warden Ellen’s epic journey wrapped up with the Golems of Amgarrak DLC. However, I made a little side objective for myself before calling it a game – see the other 5 Grey Warden beginnings.

You know what? I think this is why the game has the word Origins in its title! There is a total of 6 different ways to start the game, depending on the race/background you choose. Each offers a completely different story, but they all tie together and branch out into the overall world beautifully.

!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!! DO NOT read anything else unless you want this great game ruined… I’m serious.

Path of the Grey Warden 6: Awakened

Wannabe Writer’s Note: This is the re-posting of the Dragon Age Origins babblethrough series I did on my old website. This article was originally posted on December 21, 2017. Enjoy past me’s unedited ramblings!

I don’t care if anyone actually reads these, I’m intent on finishing my babble-through series of the Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition (plus reviewing it and Dragon Age II), dammit… better get babbling, eh! Next up is the full expansion, Awakening.

Awakened 1
The archdemon was just the beginning…

Awakening could really be considered a standalone game rather than an expansion. It has a whole new place, new story, and new companions, but the ability to import your Grey Warden from the main quest, or you can make an all new Orlesian Warden. It also takes place after the events of Origins so it’s best to play the main game first, I’d say. It took me around 14 hours to complete this expansion thingy, and I took a metric ton of screenshots, but I’ll try to do a quick-ish (well, it’s under 5k words) summary in one post. Here we go!

!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!! DO NOT read anything else unless you want this great game ruined… I’m serious.

Path of the Grey Warden 5: Where’s the Wisecracking Witch?

Wannabe Writer’s Note: This is the re-posting of the Dragon Age Origins babblethrough series I did on my old website. This article was originally posted on October 15, 2017. Enjoy past me’s unedited ramblings!

Grey Warden Ellen’s back, baby! Pushing aside her intense grief over certain tragic events that went down in my main quest, she’s now on the trail of Morrigan in the Witch Hunt DLC. Unlike in Leliana’s Song, the Witch Hunt DLC gave me the option to import my character from the main game, which of course I freaking did! I also got my Mabari war hound, Max, back. Yay!

Wisecracking Witch 1
I wanted to give Grey Warden Ellen a big hug!! I missed ya, girl.

This DLC story takes place two years after the archdemon has been downed in the main quest, so talking about exactly why I’m hunting the witch is kinda spoilery for the main game… but Morrigan is gone for some reason, and where the hell did she go? Let’s find out more in the clearly marked spoiler area, shall we?

!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!! DO NOT read anything else unless you want this great game ruined… I’m serious.

Becoming the Grey Warden

Caution – This post contains spoilers for the a large part of Dragon Age Origins. Some people like going into games knowing as little as possible (like me) so just thought I’d give you fair warning!

Wannabe Writer’s Note: This first impressions article was originally posted on my old website on August 20, 2017. Enjoy my past self’s mostly unedited ramblings! Something interesting I’ve noticed (other than bad grammarz) is that I now understand my “gushing” over Alistair. Since the original post I’m proud to say I’ve discovered I’m a demiromantic asexual. That’s a whole other post (which is here), but suffice to say, I’m not interested in sexual relationships with any gender and there’s nothing wrong with that, eh! I know mostly everyone out there gets the whole sex without love thing. I just want to say that love without sex does exist too.

Dragon Age Origins Impressions 1

Okay, so 30+ hours into a game is a little late for a first impressions type of post thingy, but I don’t care – here it is! Sometimes I just have to play a game instead of wasting time rambling about it online. Anyway, I’ve fallen way behind on BioWare’s great games so I’ve randomly decided to focus on them for the foreseeable future (of my own freewill I assure you). In fact, I’ve only played one BioWare game before now: Dragon Age II. And yeah, it’s the same tired old story with that one – I love it, the internet hates it, and whatever… let’s move on. One of the things I respect most about BioWare is their character diversity and development style. It’s about time I started meeting more of their fantastic fictional people!

Mass Effect Minutes (Part 2)

Welcome to Part 2 of my Mass Effect babblethrough series! You can check out Part 1 here, if you want, but the TL;DR version is after exploring the Citadel for first time, I just legally gained control of the Normandy at the expense of poor Captain Anderson (galactic politics at its finest). The game gives you lots of freedom on what order to do things in, so my next mission is Priority: Liara T’Soni. Even before I knew anything about Liara, I had a strong feeling she was going to be my favourite Mass Effect companion… Ali Hillis voiced characters for the win!!

Obligatory: !!!MAJOR FREAKING SPOILER!!! warning. DO NOT keep reading if you have not played Mass Effect and plan to.

Mass Effect Minutes (Part 1)

Welcome to my first new babblethrough series on Livid Lightning! On my old blog, I really enjoyed writing posts like this babbling about my adventures through Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age II, Horizon Zero Dawn, and what little I had done in The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (at the time of this post, I do intend to re-post/finish my older ones at some point, by the way). I guess these are kinda like a Let’s Play in written form using the tons of screenshots I take in games. I don’t have the verbal skillz to do the traditional video Let’s Plays, but I sure enjoy rambling about stuff in written form! These are also a great way for me to look back on a gaming adventure when I’ve long forgotten about it.

During my blogger breakdown, I focused heavily on playing through Shepard’s Mass Effect trilogy (for the very first time) to help me forget about this planet’s problems. I loved every precious second I spent with my Commander Ellen Shepard, so I’m very excited to start babbling about the entire trilogy journey I had, starting here with the first game. Not sure when/if I’ll get around to finishing it, but I’m cool if this remains an in-progress labour of gaming love. Oh and I was dumb and pressed the wrong screenshot button on my keyboard at first, thus missing many screenshots for the Prologue. Alas!

Obligatory: !!!MAJOR FREAKING SPOILER!!! warning. DO NOT keep reading if you have not played Mass Effect and plan to.
