Wannabe Writer’s note: Most images in this post were shamelessly stolen from Adventure Rules. This post is all about his site so I hope he doesn’t mind!
I’ve not been in a writing new content mood lately, not gonna lie. I’ve been riding the “re-posting of content from my old site” train a lot, which is great for me! But Chris of Overthinker Y had a cool idea to do a community collaboration in honor of the great Blogger Blitz Host – Ian of Adventure Rules. I can definitely find some words for that.
For those of you unaware, Ian runs a now annual (I think, right?) event on his website where bloggers go against each other in a writing competition, picking video game characters and writing them through freaking crazy scenarios. Oh and being judged by a jury of judgey little punks… yep, Blogger Blitz is hella scary and fun!
“Thought unseen, that gift – it lies within us all. It is a constant turmoil of light and darkness, strength and frailty, beauty and unsightliness.
That gift is our spirit. It gives us the strength we need to persevere in hardships. But at times, it is nothing but a curse, straying beyond our control… causing us pain and sorrow.
Even so, it is something far too precious to lose. It is what allows me to hold hope for the future. In a world consumed by chaos, in a world where spirits are fading. I ask myself: have I the strength to embrace my gift?” – Lightning Farron, my shero.
To say that the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy has a special place in my heart would be an understatement. Not gonna lie, it was a struggle to write this article for the big Final Fantasy Crystal Compendium community project. I could go into the technical details of all three games, but I don’t want to. There are a ton of reviews from experts if you want to read that. I could get cranky and babble on about how much everyone seems to hate on these 3 games with passion, for various reasons, but I’m not. Everyone has their opinions, and that’s fine. Love them or hate them, Lightning, Sazh, Snow, Hope, Vanille, Fang, Serah, and Noel all mean the world to me. They were the family and friends I desperately needed during a difficult time when my own selfish misery had left me abandoned and lost in my own darkness.
I’m still kinda devastated by Bowser’s heartbreaking Blogger Blitz defeat last Friday at the hands of Marjolaine. Alas, I should have never trusted her! Anyway, I decided to honor the big guy by re-posting my Bowser themed response to another great Adventure Rules community event I participated in last year called Charming and Open. Basically, you asked the gracious host Ian a question, and he gave you a question to answer in response. The questions were answered in the form of blog posts, thus creating a great sense of blogging community togetherness!
Ladies, gentlemen, dear friends, and heartless spam-bots!
OMG!! It’s time for the 2nd annual Blogger Blitz event brought to you by Ian of Adventure Rules. I had a freaking blast (even though it was hella hard) partaking in last year’s Blogger Blitz insanity with my shero, Lightning Farron. This year the rules are a little different… Only villains are allowed to play and they are bumbling their way through scenarios the blogging community created in the months leading up to this (very cool idea!). I decided to go with my all-time favourite bad guy, Bowser from the iconic Mario series. Bwahahaha!! Sorry, I think I’m still in character. Ahem.
I was actually on the fence about jumping into the action again this year. Distracting health issues and whatnot, plus I knew there would be extra pressure on me as the returning “champion”. I decided to just go for it and, well, here I am. My primary goal is to have fun. I’m not a competitively driven person at all (probably a big reason why I’m not a fan of multiplayer games) but I do love the community togetherness aspect of Blogger Blitz, a lot! And one of the greatest qualities I admire about Bowser is his ability to lose with style. I certainly want to stay true to his character, above all else. Gwahahaha!
This re-post is brought to you by the Well-Red Mage’s 2nd community question: Are video games art? This was such a fun post to write I thought I’d restore my answer on my new website, eh!
Before I jump into the bulk of my relatively short old post, I must stress (again) that I have NO IDEA what I’m talking about. I also have no education background in anything important, but here is my brain’s rough answer to the question!
And here we are at the final part of my trip down Blogger Blitz 2017 by Adventure Rules memory lane! The whole event was quite the emotional writing journey for me but this last match literally forced Lightning and I to face the feelz head-on. Twas the most INTENSE scenario ever, too. I can’t even begin to try and re-explain it all so I shall quote the host’s description of the fun:
“You have been invited by the steward of the Mushroom Kingdom to assist them with a royal problem. The infant princess, Baby Peach, has begun to develop strange abilities based on her emotions. She literally cries rivers, when she’s angry she bursts into flame, her happiness causes her to float in the air and produce bursts of wind – the only emotional state in which the castle and its staff are safe from her is when she is calm. A doctor is preparing a cure but a courier has to make an overnight trip to pick it up. So the steward needs someone to protect Peach’s Castle from her emotion powers until the cure is delivered. ‘Why not just take her out of the castle?’ you might ask. As fate would have it, there’s an issue with the castle’s power source, the Power Stars. They’ve malfunctioned and now the only thing keeping them running is Peach’s presence in the castle. If she leaves, the Stars will fail and be scattered across the kingdom. ‘We tried having the castle wizard place a spell on her to make her sleep through the night,’ the steward explains, ‘but she is immune to any magic that influences her emotional state.’ There’s another problem too – taking advantage of the castle’s current vulnerability, the evil wizard Kamek has summoned six warriors from other worlds to attack the Mushroom Kingdom. You might recognize them as the defeated competitors from the Blogger Blitz challenge. These warriors, under Kamek’s control, will stop at nothing to kidnap Peach and leave the castle in ruins.”
Continuing to re-post my Blogger Blitz entries from last year’s big community event hosted by Adventure Rules, here is my overly emotional semifinal post. And wow, this one was a real challenge…
In the semifinal event, amusingly called Soccer Survival, Lightning and I had to survive in Mega Man’s universe for 24 hours, and then immediately play a game of soccer (otherwise known as football to anyone not in North America) against a team led by the Blue Bomber himself.
