Underrated Ladies!

My blogger tag To Do list is outta control, man. For the record, I love everyone who thinks to tag me in these chain letters… I mean, Blogger Tags/Awards. It’s just my response time ranges from almost forever to never. I need to be in the right mood to write about stuff, I guess? I’m also old now and I forget what I was tagged in if I don’t bookmark it right away… and what is proper sentence structure? I’m seriously a mess over here.

Anyway, I’m going to try to work on that! Don’t beat yourself up over mistakes, just be better. And what better place to start than this fabulous female empowered tag from the always cool Kelly over at Why We Play Games (thanks, girl).

Yes. Yes, I do see many opportunities to mention Final Fantasy XIII with this one. No. No, I’m not sorry.

Mission: Finish Fallout 4 in March (Failed)

So, I said I’d do the follow up post to the #MaybeInMarch Mission sometime in April… I wasn’t planning on it being this late in April, but eh, here we go! Ahem.

As the title of this blog post implies, I did not beat Fallout 4 in March (unsurprisingly) BUT I was super happy to see a few bloggers out there contribute to the event. Here are the participant posts that caught my limited attention. If you contributed something and I didn’t catch it, definitely let me know. I’ll remedy that and include a link to your content as well.

And now I shall babble in detail about what I did actually do in Fallout 4 during March. I’m happy to say I’ve platinumed the game last weekend (#AlwaysApril FTW). Yes. My posting timeline is all over the place these days…

Also: HUGE FREAKING SPOILER WARNING for anyone who hasn’t beaten Fallout 4 yet and wants to. You have been warned.

Inkling: Randomizer

Confession. I’m sorta not feeling the whole writing about games and being social (online and offline) thing lately, and for the 100th time since I started blogging. Trying to force myself to review a few games I’ve beaten recently (among other posts) is… well, agonizing. It must be this time of year and the fact winter just won’t GO AWAY, GODDAMMIT!! I’m so tired of falling on ice and crawling over snowbanks on un-plowed sidewalks… Maker, why is my city so cheap?? Ahem. This is a FUN HOBBY that SHOULD NOT feel like a chore. I keep yelling that at myself, but I never listen. Sigh.

But yeah, my blogging motivation level is slowly approaching “inexplicably delete myself off the internet” levels of “why am I still doing this and nobody cares” again. Not there yet, at least. My mind is a strange place… Thankfully, these days I have enough self-awareness to not let my emotional turbulence and social problems destroy me. Ups and downs happen. Moods swing. People change. Hearts break. It’s not my fault. None of us are here forever. Just gotta deal with it. Grab a controller and carry on, eh!

Anyway, I saw this writing prompt from Normal Happenings‘ cool Daily Inkling series of posts (awesome idea). I thought I’d take a stab at this one to switch things up and give my brain something else to ponder. Woot. Distractions.

My Fallout 4 Story Thus Far…

Well, I suppose I should take a stab at #MaybeInMarch too! The game that’s been on my backlog list the longest (as per the #LoveYourBacklog event) is Final Fantasy VIII. As Aether so wisely helped me realize via cool comment on that post, I got far enough in that game to probably not worry about it so much (up to the 2nd last boss is good, right?). If there’s ever a remake, I’ll make it a priority to conquer VIII.

So then, there’s this other game that’s always in the back of my mind… screaming at me to finish it… even though I haven’t touched it in over two years. That game, my friends, is Fallout 4. I recently re-posted my first impressions of the game and the TL;DR problem is that I just couldn’t for the life of me concentrate on it long enough to finish it. Not sure why since I do really enjoy the game… it’s a weird gamer state of mind, I guess.

The time for me to finish (or give up on) Fallout 4 is NOW, and I don’t feel like starting a brand new game (since I did a ton of side questing and whatnot). Thankfully, past me babbled about Fallout 4 a lot in a failed weekly progress post series I did on my old website. In an effort to trigger my memory about what I’ve done in this game thus far, I’ve pulled together all those status updates (and added some screenshots I found on my PS4) to form this post. Enjoy!

#MaybeInMarch 2019 – A Community Backlog Mission

First off, a huge thank you to everyone who partook in February’s #LoveYourBacklog week! Kim and I were pleasantly shocked by all the cool entries that were posted. You guys rock!

And now it’s time for part two: dedicating an entire month to getting through that one unplayed game that’s been taunting you the most. Whether it’s been the game that’s been on your backlog list the longest from the #LoveYourBacklog event, or one that you’ve been struggling to just play for some reason or another, this is the month it seriously might happen.

#MaybeInMarch 2019 you’ll get that game done, or maybe finally give up on it completely, thus freeing you from its constant cries to complete it.

Embrace Thy Backlog Monster!

“Backlog: just a small word but one which tends to send a shiver down most gamers’ spines. That sense of unease and discomfort experienced when looking at our pile of unplayed titles is a feeling we’re all too familiar with. Yet try as we might, we just can’t stop ourselves from adding entries to our library of games to be played and feeling oh-so-guilty about it.” – Kim of Later Levels

Tell me about it! Oh and you’re now reading the words of someone who started blogging in the WordPress world under the theme of “Conquering the Gaming Backlog” (me, in case it wasn’t obvious). Ah, those were the days… if only I could yell some words of advice back to 2015 me. So. Many. Things. I’d do differently. Alas! But I digress. The learning point I got from that experience is: I’ve accepted that I can never keep up with the pace of games I wanna play, thus the backlog monster in unconquerable. But why make thy video game backlog thy enemy? If you can’t beat ’em, embrace ’em!

The awesome Kim over at Later Levels is running a cool collaboration, that I sorta helped with, called #LoveYourBacklog. You can check out the details on Later Levels for more info on how you can get involved. It’s really cool! There are badges and award categories too. The major message is: we all have backlogs and should be proud of them! So show off that fine backlog monster of yours, eh.

Anyway, here’s my entry in the collaboration that I totally helped with!! This is so cool. I’ve never really played a role in shaping an event before. Thanks, Kim! You rock.

Ah!! The Belated Resident Evil Memories…

Nope! I’m NOT a fan of the horror genre in any medium and extra especially video games. Getting thrown into a world with various terrors and all that… no freaking thank you. I do make exceptions for certain special horror games, though. For whatever reason, teenage me was a super fan of the Resident Evil series. I’ve recently babbled about my thoughts on the Resident Evil 2 1-Shot Demo and that’s about it for my ramblings about the series here. While I enjoyed the demo, it definitely reminded me I’m a wuss when it comes to this stuff. Let’s just say I spent a sleepless night binge reading a friend’s blog… with my cats close by because I had no one around to talk to… ahem. Be brave, Ellen!

Anyway, with the exciting launch of the Resident Evil 2 REmake upon behind us, I decided to contribute something to the awesome That Green Dude‘s Resident Evil Memories community project (and this is late since the deadline was January 24th, 2019… sorry, life happens).

So without further intro babbling, here’s a brief glimpse at my terrible memory’s Resident Evil related files. Jeez. I last played these games, like, 10 years ago now. Wow… I’m old.
