Welcome to my monthly progress post that happens on the 13th (unless I miss a month… oops), which marks the start of a new fiscal month here on Livid Lightning. Get it? XIII is my favourite number… because I like Final Fantasy XIII a lot? Jeez… tough crowd.
I haven’t been feeling very social media friendly lately, so I haven’t been online for a few weeks. I hope everyone’s rocking whatever they’re working on these days! I’ve been busy battling my brain’s negative thought patterns, trying to platinum the Mass Effect trilogy, and attempting more of the social offline thing.
Oh and I went on an amazing trip to the USA and got to meet two of my blogging buddies (Athena and The Shameful Narcissist) in reality. That was the best IRL experience ever!! First time leaving Canada, too, eh. I’ll probably be blogging about my trip in another post, but TL;DR I went to the great State of New Jersey and also got to spend a day wandering around New York City (just… WOW).
Anyway, I suspect my social media presence will never be the same as it once was. That’s life! We move forward, we grow, and we change.
After some pondering, I’ve officially closed down my Patreon page. I just didn’t feel right about it. I do this for fun and it will never make me money, nor should it. Thanks to the 4 awesome folks who pledged to give me money every month for babbling on the internet:

XIII Great Posts From Other Bloggers
I) Agony Aunt: “You made me put the toilet seat down & you will pay!” – Never, ever follow Professional Moron’s relationship advice… you may find yourself in a machine-gun war over proper toilet seat edict.
II) Delving Into Kirby’s Dream Course 1 – I have fond memories of spending an entire childhood summer playing Kirby’s Dream Course with my mom. It was nice to see Pete Davison of MoeGamer discuss the cute pink puffball’s mini-golf-like game on the SNES.
III) That Time I Made Friends with a Deathclaw in Fallout 4 – Randomly encountering a Deathclaw in Fallout usually evokes feelings of terror and panic. But as Cary reminded me on this Virtual Bastion post, not all of them will kill you on sight.
IV) 2009 and the Biggest Games Turning 10, Part I – Overpowered reminded me that 2009 was a freaking awesome year in gaming!
V) The Grieving Power of Video Games – It was hard not to cry while reading The Video Game Virtuoso’s tribute post to his father. More proof that video games have the power to help us through our life’s tragedies.
VI) Blogovision 2019: The Final – I’ll admit I have no idea what that Eurovision thingy is all about… still, I enjoyed reading the results post from Pix and Overthinker Y’s fabulous parody blogging event.
VII) The Broken Rose: Chapter 16 – In Bloom – The latest chapter of The Shameful Narcissist’s latest Final Fantasy VII fanfiction is out and awesome! One of these days I’m going to attempt to write a fanfiction of my own, eh.
VIII) Gendered Careers – Where are the women in Pro Esports? – The Backlog Crusader wrote an excellent piece about female inclusion in the Esports industry.
IX) Trees in Progress – Yikes! Miniature terrain trees are harder to make then you’d think… Good job, Kuribo!
X) Fandom Friday: Switching up my backlog – So according to this post by The Gaming Diaries, there is a game about cute dragons in a cafe on the Switch… WANT!! Ahem.
XI) Leveling Up Adult Friendships – I’ve always failed pretty hard at the making and maintaining friends thing in reality. I like to think I’ve improved as an adult, though! I want few friends in my life who I can truly connect with, not a big group of “fake” friends who only like a fake me. Anyway, A Geeky Gal provided some awesome tips on how to attract those special friends.
XII) Blame it on the Game – wwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaa ssssssssssssdddddddddddddfffffffffffffffffffffff…. You ok, Video Games Nebula???
XIII) Games “Back Then”: The Benefits of Nostalgic Thinking – Athena’s back to blogging. Woot! Loved learning about nostalgia and it’s mostly positive impact on our mental health. You are never alone when you have old game character friends to chill with.
Games Completed in 2019: 9 (+2)
Games Newly Finished
Mass Effect (PS3) – Platinumed on June 21st, baby! I have a post written about Week 2 and 3 of my quest so that should go live soon-ish (maybe).
RuneScape (Web Browser) – While visiting my folks for the Canada Day long weekend, I dusted off my long abandoned RuneScape account to see how my very first MMO was doing. I completed a new free quest but quickly got bored and remembered why I quit: it’s essentially just one endless level grinder. No, thank you.
Games Actively Played
Mass Effect 2 (PS3) – Rolling right along with my Mass Effect Platinum quest. I’ve acquired 60% of the shiny trophies in this one so far. About to go grab the Reaper IFF on my first playthrough. I do have some draft posts of my progress which may or may not be published.
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (Switch) – Still very, very slowly making my way through the “masterpiece” Zelda game I’m not overly fond of (I only play it when traveling, apparently). An awesome friend I was visiting in the USA made some progress for me, and then I played more while waiting at Newark Liberty International Airport on the way home. I will one day go on enough trips to finish this game. Two Divine Beasts acquired (Zora and Goron), two more to go. Guess I better start planning my next IRL trip.

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin
The super popular A Song of Ice and Fire series is… ok to me so far. I’m honestly not a fan of the senseless violence, and would seriously like to go at least a few chapters without getting a description of a woman being abused and/or random graphic sex scene. There’s enough good story stuff to keep me intrigued, though. I’ll be reading Book 3 soon.

Life & Other Things
I got a new tattoo while I was in New Jersey. It’s not video game themed, but I love it all the same. Right now it’s an itchy mess of colourful scabs, but once it’s fully healed I shall share a picture of it.
There you have it! My monthly progress post thingy. What’s anyone reading this up to these days? Comments section is down below if you want to share your thoughts on things!
