Creative Christmas 4: Merry Gaming Melodies

Ho, ho, ho, internet!

Last year, the amazing Kim of Later Levels created this awesome Christmas community collaboration event thingy. I was so totally in, then I deleted my old website earlier this year, erasing my old entries of the interwebz forever. Alas!

Basically, there were 12 holiday themed questions bloggers answered on set days, in a format of their own choosing. Yep. Iโ€™m still trying to get back in touch with my joyful side after 2018โ€™s crazinessโ€ฆ so Iโ€™m hyping myself up for that upcoming cheery Christmas event by re-posting my old answers and providing new answers for this year. Iโ€™ve changed a lot, man.

Question #4

It’s now Christmas Eve and you’re throwing a lively party for all your friends, family and favourite characters. Which video game soundtracks would be on your playlist?

2017 Answer

For Day 2 answer related reasons, the Diddy Kong Racing soundtrack screams holiday spirit to me. I think the music from the Snowflake Mountain tracks would fit the season the season the best. David Wise is a freaking genius, by the way.

Oh and the big blue walrus boss there kicked my young ass SO MANY times. It was nice to finally beat him!

2018 Answer

I’ll just go with what 2017 me said. There’s a ton of gaming music out there with a holiday vibe, and I’m just too lazy to list more…

Feel free to share your favourite holiday themed video game music in the comments section thingy down below!

If for some odd reason you want to read more of my posts, you can find a somewhat organized (and usually up to date) archive of my ramblingsโ€ฆ I mean, articles here!

I'm a wannabe writer and an avid video gamer with a slight (okay, maybe extreme) Amiibo addiction. I'm from the coastal province of Nova Scotia in Canada, eh. When I'm not gaming, I have a steady job thing I have to go to. It pays for the gaming thing though. :)

  1. Haven’t been really feeling the Christmas tunes this year. Maybe because I’m getting more and more into Japanese things, IDK.

For me, I always have my Micheal Buble Christmas album.

  2. I’d go with Super Mario 64 Snow mountain, Sonic Adventure Snowy Mountain, Persona 4 Golden Snowflakes, and Donkey Kong Country Ice Cave for some wintery/holiday themes

      1. Yeah the guys at CroTeam have always appreciated silly humor, and that series has always been kind of like a First-Person Smash TV. Glad you enjoyed it. They’re fun twitch games if you ever want to check out something different.

  3. The Diddy Kong Racing soundtrack was pretty consistently excellent. Rare were actually way better at making the N64 sing than Nintendo themselves were. I’m still bitter about how the otherwise excellent compositions in Ocarina of Time and Star Fox 64/Lylat Wars were absolutely butchered by Nintendo’s atrocious MIDI synth!

  4. Diddy Kong Racing 4ever! Before we left on our trip I left my old N64
with my nephews, and they were over the moon with Diddy Kong Racing!

I received an early present from my sister, she sent me a diffuser with a set of
essential oils from a company called DoTerra. I had never tried aromatherapy,
but I swear it works amazingly well to help with mood, stress and anxiety. It
might be something to try out. ( I love the cinnamon bark & the peppermint oil)

  5. Aw, I love this post. It’s amazing how hearing certain video game music again can take you right back to all the fun memories you have that game. Now I totally want to play Diddy Kong Racing again. It’s such a fun (sometimes infuriating) game! ๐Ÿ˜›
Banjo-Kazooie’s Freezeezy Peak music gives me the same holiday vibe these ones do. But then I always think about the poor polar baby bears and how much of an ass their dad was. lmao That used to make me so mad, but I love that level. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you! I have lots of video game music that I like to crank the volume up on while I’m driving, haha.

Now I want to play Banjo-Kazooie and DKR again ๐Ÿ™‚ I remember the sad polar bears wanting presents! Aw. That takes me back.

      1. I want to play those games again, too. ๐Ÿ˜€
I’ve been re-playing the Crash Bandicoot games a lot lately. (I got Mr. Moth the new re-release set of the Spyro games as a Christmas present, so I expect we’ll be playing those soon as well!)
I like listening to video game soundtracks, too. Especially if I’m writing since they tend to just me instrumental. Sometimes vocals can be distracting to me when I’m trying to write so video game music comes in handy! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I love the Starlight Celebration from FFXIV (https://youtu.be/Q7W4dsw_1Kk). It’s Christmasy without being overbearing. It’s a really pretty song and really great for editing. Of course there’s also Frozen Landscape (Buried in Snow) from Voices of the Lifestream (https://youtu.be/ieGLg48JoL8). Both of these are great for writing/editing. I’ve been finding lyrics can be distracting now since brain fog has moved into stay so ambient and/or video game music is my go to.
